Types of Dental Implants

Dental implants provide the strong foundation needed for prosthetic teeth. Whether you need a dental bridge, a single prosthetic implant, all-on-4, or even partial dentures, we can utilize dental implants to provide the stability you need for proper chewing. Hamilton Family Dentistry is committed to your smile restoration, and we can provide the types of dental implants to secure your prosthetic teeth.

Subperiosteal Dental Implants vs. Endosteal Implants

Although these dental implants options were developed in the 1940s, endosteal implants are the only ones used regularly now. In rare cases when a patient does not have enough jawbone left, a subperiosteal dental implant is used. Endosteal implants were made from stainless steel, but they have primarily been made from titanium since 1965 because titanium is 3-4 times stronger than stainless steel. Greater strength means more stable and secure prosthetic teeth.

Types of Dental Implants

  • Single Tooth Replacement–When you are missing one tooth, a prosthetic tooth implant can be secured to your jawbone with a dental implant. Your jawbone will heal and accept the dental implant as if it were natural tooth roots. A dental crown combined with an abutment and an implant will restore the appearance and function of your smile.
  • Dental Bridge Supported with Implants–If you are missing multiple teeth, a dental bridge can help fill  in your smile. Although dental bridges can be supported with the surrounding teeth, this can place unnecessary stress on your existing teeth. Dental implants can be used to secure the bridge to your jawbone for lasting strength. Artificial teeth implants will help you regain confidence in your smile and the ability to chew normally again. A dental bridge will also prevent your existing teeth from shifting out of place.
  • All-On-4–This restorative solution is ideal for patients with significant tooth loss or damage. The prosthetic teeth are anchored with just four dental implants. The All-On-4 procedure is a permanent solution to help a patient achieve a natural-looking and functional smile again.
