Visit Your Dentist in Harris County Before the Year’s End
It’s shaping up to be a beautiful holiday season at our office — and around this time of year, we always like to remind our patients to schedule an appointment with the dentist before the ball drops on New Year’s Eve. Why? Because if you have dental insurance, that’s when your unused benefits will expire. You will have to meet your deductible all over again to receive any benefits in 2018.
Your dentist in Harris County can help you maximize what’s left of your insurance plan in 2017 to help ensure you don’t let any money go to waste — and that you are able to enter the new year with a clean, healthy, beautiful smile!
How Dental Insurance Works
Dental insurance works with a heavy emphasis on prevention. You pay for two checkups and cleanings as well as other preventive treatments each month in the form of a premium, which usually ranges around $50. Restorative treatments like fillings, dental crowns, and other necessary services also come at a discount if you have dental insurance.
However, it is important to note that dental insurance plans are usually set on a calendar year — and most do not rollover periods for unused benefits. That means any discounts you are eligible for after meeting your deductible for 2017 are about to run out.
FSA and HSA Benefits Expire, Too
If you have a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA), you should know that most of any remaining money in these accounts will also be forfeited at the end of the year. You may be able to rollover a small portion, but the majority of your funds will be wasted. You can put this money toward necessary dental treatments, so make sure it doesn’t slip away!
There’s Still Time!
No matter who your insurance provider is, our office will be happy to file your insurance claim to ensure you receive the full amount of money you are entitled to. We will begin with a verification of benefits to confirm what you are eligible for — and then we can make advice specific to your plan after that.
Some of the ways to maximize your benefits include:
- Scheduling a checkup and cleaning if you have not had two in 2017
- Completing any unfinished treatment plans
- Getting started on care that you have been putting off
- Replacing worn nightguards, sportsguards, or other dental devices that may be covered by your plan
If you think or know you have unused benefits for 2017, then don’t wait to get in touch with your general, restorative, and cosmetic dentist in Harris County. December is a busy month for dental practices, so call today to ensure you receive the most convenient scheduling.
